Try Building a Bar That Suits Your Style

Home renovations are big these days. People are adding luxury items to make their home a truly comfortable nest. One fun feature to add to your home is a bar. Wouldn't it be great it would be to enjoy your favorite brew in a comfortable pub all your own? You and your friends can watch the big game in your very own local tavern and not worry about crowds.

If you are ready to have your very own "Cheers" in your basement or living room, here are some tips:

First of all, plan out what you want? Do you just want a small bar where you can have your single nightcap? Or are you the party animal of your crowd with three or more parties a month? Do you want a wet bar with full plumbing for a sink and a refrigerator with an ice maker? Do you want a nice oak bar with the padded rail and bar stools? Or would just a table and chairs suffice? Do you need counter space?

These are all some of the factors to consider when designing your bar. Now that you know what you want, do you have space for it? We all have our dreams but if you don't have the room for the bar's amenities, you may have to scale back.

You also have to take into account your budget. Most bar installations are not that expensive, but only you know your financial affairs. Consider which parts of the project are most important to you and which ones you can scale back on. You may want to use high quality wood for the parts of the bar your guests use but scale back on the tile that only you will see. You may be able to build the major portions now and finish the smaller items later on.

One part you do not was to skimp on is the bar top. It takes a lot of abuse, from spilled drinks to broken glasses to occasional poundings by people making their point. It's important to use a durable surface for this counter space. Granite or Formica might chip. Another possibility is a wood veneer top that is water-proofed. These can last for years of parties. You may want to consider making it match your kitchen cabinets and countertops.

While it's important for the portions your guests see to look good, you still must consider the storage portions of your bar. You need room to hold your liquor and glasses. You also need room for your plumbing and your cleaning supplies. Don't forget to leave space for you to move around.

As you can see home renovation bars are a great idea. Why not talk it over with your friends over a few drinks? Then sweet-talk them into helping you build it? Their help on building your home bar is worth a party, isn't it?
